GNYC Training Extravaganza – TREX

What is TREX?  Why should You attend?

GNYC Training Extravaganza is a supplemental training opportunity organized and taught by volunteer instructors.  It is the only time during the year when you can find, all in one place, the widest variety of training opportunities in all program areas: Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, and Venturing, as well as sessions for district volunteers and commissioners. Whether you are new to Scouting or a veteran, TREX provides interesting courses for all. Courses will include some of your favorites from years past and some exciting new content. You don’t want to miss TREX!

What are the desired outcomes?

Whether it’s learning about fundraising, communications, youth safety, updates on camping and outdoor programs, using technology, and more- you can learn about it at TREX and bring the skills back to your unit to grow and improve on the experiences for our youth members.

What is the cost?

$10.00 for adult and youth participants (includes patch)

What to wear?

Youth and adults should attend wearing the official field uniform

Who Should/can attend?

  • Adult Leaders of all levels of Scouting. (Unit, District, Council)
  • Youth (Scouts BSA and Venturing) are encouraged to attend youth courses.

Read through the course descriptions.  Share the Course Catalog with your unit leaders, parents, and Scouts. There are courses designed for all levels of Scouting. We encourage you to take courses outside your comfort zone.

Exciting news: GNYC TREX Youth Leadership Series at TreX with Merit Badge and Cub Activities Opportunities!

“Grow as a youth leader by attending TREX”.

GNYC is thrilled to announce an addition to this upcoming Training Extravaganza: the introduction of Youth Leadership Courses. TREX will remain supplemental adult volunteer training but, this year we’re expanding TREX to empower young leaders in Greater New York Councils.

Embark on a journey of growth as a youth by attending a series of youth-led leadership and general courses. Our leadership courses will be developed and presented by our dynamic GNYC youth leaders, including OA members, recent Eagle Scouts, Senior Patrol Leaders, NYLT Staff, these courses promise a unique and enriching experience.

Cub Scout Activities:
In order to better support Scouters attending TrEx, cub scout activities are available for registered Scouts. To prevent the spread of the cold and flu, we are asking only healthy children be registered.

Please be advised that no food will be provided. The parent/guardian must provide their own lunch, snacks, and drinks. We do not have the ability to heat food. Scouts are not able to leave the facility without being signed out by a parent/guardian.

IMPORTANT: Each child must be registered individually for Cub Scout Activities and will only be released to the named parent/guardian on the registration.

Merit Badge Classes:

This year we’re thrilled to offer Merit Badge Classes for Scouts BSA Youth attending TrEx.

Please be advised, No food will be provided. The parent/guardian must provide their own lunch, snacks, drinks and or money. We do not have the ability to heat food.

IMPORTANT: Each child must be registered individually, specifying pickup preferences indicating pickup or if the youth is allowed to leave the building on their own. For safety, Scouts BSA and Venturing youth will only be release to the named parent/guardian on the registration.

General registration

Registration opens January 5, 2024

Registration and Check-in/Out Process:

  • After registration, participants will receive their classroom schedule automatically to their email address/ Cellphone.
  • Seamless check-in via QR codes.
  • Upon finishing their courses for the day, both adults and youth should proceed to check-out to obtain their 2024 TREX Training Card and complete a brief survey.

Upon finishing their courses for the day, both adults and youth should proceed to check-out in order to obtain their 2024 TREX Training Card. Our goal is for every participant to leave with a sense of empowerment, enthusiasm, and readiness to apply the acquired knowledge within their units.
