Featured Event Types:

Pinewood Derby: Cub Scouts work together, strengthening bonds and building confidence – and their own custom race cars!

Camporees: Scouting districts offer one or more annual “camporees” open to all Scouts BSA troops in the district. They often include activities intended for patrols or entire troops.

Merit Badge Events: Councelors make themselves availble to instruct select badges at merit badge rallys, merit badge pro-series held at NYC businesses, or courses held at camps year-round.

Parades: Throughout the year Scouts are invited to march in celebrations as participants, and as members of an honor guard.  Parades include- Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Lunar New Year, and more.

Fall Festival: Annual event including a Family Fun Weekend and a Cub Scout Activity Day with Camping and Fall Activities like a maze, haunted house, hay ride, pumpkin decorating and more.

Fishing Derbies: With Ohrbach Lake located at Camp Pouch in the heart of Staten Island there is ample opportunity for these great events close to home or at the many lakes of Ten Mile River!

STEM Camp: Presented by the STEM committee this Week-long Spring Break special event gives Scouts the opportunity to learn about the intersection of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics,  working hands-on at Alpine Scout Camp.

Climbing Events: With climbing facilities at each GNYC Camp location there is no shortage of opportunities for Scouts to learn this popular skill and emerging sport. Look for all night "Climb the Night Away" events at Alpine Scout Camp.

Shooting Sports Weekends: Some of the most popular and well attended youth events in GNYC Shooting Sports events are held in spring and fall and utilize the many ranges of Ten Mile River Scout Camps.

Raft-o-Rees: Scouts BSA and leaders are invited to camp at TMR and raft 10-miles down the Delaware River. This is an excellent trip for Troops- lots of fun, simple planning, and a high likelihood of a bald eagle sighting!

Cook-o-Ree: Scouting is much more than just building campfires; cooking whether over a fire or at home is an important and valuable skill for young folks to learn. The Cook-O-Ree at Alpine Scout Camp introduces Scouts to a variety of cooking techniques and methods.

Hikes and Trek-o-Rees: Trails at our camping properties or NYC and NY State Parks serve as the backdrop for day hikes, overnight backpacking, and multiday trek-o-rees- multiple units gathering to hike and camp together!

Clean-ups and Community Service:  Scouts have rendered distinguished public service by helping to conserve wildlife, energy, forests, soil, and water. NYC Scouts Participate in Park Days, Neighborhood Clean-ups and Service projects.

Winter Camp: NYC Scouts BSA have the chance to brave the elements during the day while participating in outdoor programs while making use of the great facilities at Alpine Scout Camp's Reeves Lodge for merit badge class rooms and overnight accomodations.

Spring Family Fun Weekends: These annual events and Family Fun Weekends provide an opportunity for families to stretch their legs after hibernation season. Get back to camp and spend a day exploring the program areas and activities of Alpine Scout Camp and John E. Reeves Cub World

Steak-Out: Our annual gathering of City Scouters (volunteer leaders) to kick-off our Scouting year, learn the latest info, and connect in fellowship each september.

Get Involved

A short-term camp is any council-organized overnight camping program, whether one-time or continuing, that is one, two or three nights in length where the council or its agents provide the staffing and may provide program and food services, and includes camps conducted off council properties. National training courses are subject to the short-term camp requirements, regardless of format or duration.

Planing to run a multi-unit event?

By working together across packs, troops, and crews Scouting district and council events allow us all to come together for shared experiences with the benefit of shared talents, resources, and expertise.

Multi-unit events that include a camp out must complete this Short Term Camping event request. This helps to keep our activities safe, fun, and ensure participants are getting the best of the Scouting program and volunteers have the resources and support they need to run a successful event.
