Year in Review – Founders District

2019 was a great year for scouting in the Founders District of Queens. We started off the year with our Wintoree where troops competed against each other up at Alpine and learned about teamwork, friendship, and the benefits of working hard. Back in Queens the Cub Scouts had a blast with the Winter Carnival.

March saw the Pinewood Derby where 108 scouts from throughout the District raced against each other to see who had the fastest car in the district. At the Skills Rally scouts tested their skills in knot tying, lashing, log sawing, first aid and more! These Spring events were largely successful and a lot of fun. The Spring also saw new members join our district leadership, with Michael Lectora accepting the role of District Chair.

The summer saw hundreds of scouts head out to our camps at Alpine and Ten Mile River Scout Camps. At Alpine, the scouts chose to go for either a three-night session or six-night session filled with excitement and adventure. At Ten Mile River, the scouts rode ATVs, hung out at scoutcraft, took part in shooting sports, hiked, and more! The District rounded out the year in the Fall with events like the Urban Camporee and Fall Cuboree and Camporee. At the Urban Camporee scouts were able to be visible to families by camping right in Queens.

This year was full of fun activities, new experiences, and more. 2020 will let us build on this and make it an even better year than the one before it! We recommend everyone come out to our district events and meetings to get the most out of your scouting experience. It gives the youth the chance to make friends from all throughout the district, and helps strengthen scouting as a whole. We look forward to a great 2020 and look forward to seeing you there!
